Volvo launches for the first time a new three-cylinder engine for the new XC40   MADRID, 19 (EUROPA PRESS)   The Volvo Cars car company has launched a new three-cylinder Drive-E drive train for the new XC40 SUV, making it the first three-cylinder engine in the history of the firm, the company said in a statement.   The new 1.5-liter, three-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine has been developed by the company using the same modular design as Volvo's four-cylinder Drive-E engines.   The new mechanics is associated with a six-speed manual gearbox, although next year it will be available, optionally, with an eight-speed automatic transmission.   "Our new three-cylinder engine is an exciting development for the XC40 and for Volvo Cars in general," said Volvo Vehicle Line Director Alexander Petrofski.   Also, the new three-cylinder engine has been designed for integration into plug-in hybrid vehicles, so in the future will come the version of the plug-in hybrid XC40 and a pure electric.   For its part, the new XC40 is available with new levels of equipment such as Momentum and R-Design launch variants, in addition to the new Inscription level.   The Inscription level is the most luxurious and offers exterior design options with 18, 19 or 20-inch wheels, side windows and chrome mesh mesh, in addition to the specific colors for the model.   "The new XC40 is a young car that adapts to drivers with a strong sense of individuality," said Petrofski.
